ES Broadcast Hire, the hire division of ES Broadcast, has taken delivery of another wave of new Canon UHD broadcast lenses, further expanding a 4K hire fleet that is already one of Europe’s largest.
The addition of the lenses is helping to meet the demand being generated by major sporting events being covered in UHD, such as this month’s Winter Olympics in South Korea, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, taking place in Russia this summer.
Canon UHD lenses “a sensible investment”
“The UJ90, CJ12 and CJ20 lenses are already helping to meet the increasing demand we have seen from OB companies to use Canon’s UHD solutions, especially in the sports arena,” said Warren Taggart, Managing Director of ES Broadcast Hire.

Demand for 4K workflows continuing to increase

In April 2017, ES Broadcast Hire became the first broadcast hire company in Europe to offer a full line-up of Canon UHD broadcast lenses, after purchasing multiple Canon UJ27x6.5B UHD DIGISUPER 27 lenses.
The compact and lightweight Canon CJ12ex4.3B and CJ20ex7.8B are compact, lightweight professional UHD broadcast lenses which give operators exceptional mobility and flexibility of use. The CJ12 offers 12x zoom and a focal length of 4.3-52mm. The CJ20 offers a 20x zoom and 7.8-156mm zoom range.
The Canon UJ90 is a UHD 4K 2/3″ field lens with 90x zoom and 9-810mm focal length (or up to 1620mm with the built-in 2x extender). Thanks to its wide focal range, it is the ideal lens to cover wide spaces such as sports arenas with a single lens.
